Spa Hotels and Resorts - Ultimate Wellness Destinations

The emergence of spas is not recent. Earlier spas were located near a natural spring offering holistic wellness treatment to the visiting public. The term is more than often referred in conjunction with healing and curing than wellness. Spas got a make over from the Roman royals. They developed spas with a touch of class and a feel of luxury. In fact, they started using spas more or less like wellness centres, soaking in spring water, taking steam or hot air bath in a marble clad chamber, giving the body the luxury of soft massage, taking a cool dip in spring water and finishing with a relaxing drink.

Present day hectic pace of life, a busy social lifestyle of the lap top carrying corporate executives has created a profitable business opportunity for the hospitality industry - wellness travel. The concept of wellness is quite different than curative or medical travel. Wellness is for healthy people wanting to live healthier, whereas medical travel is for patients wanting to get well. This fine distinction makes wellness travel or spa tourism an interesting marketing proposition.

The term spa is derived from its Latin origin - salus per aquam, literally translating as water gifted health. No wonder then that the earlier wellness spots were located near natural springs as aqua therapy is considered mother of all detox therapies. The German health destinations like Baden Baden and Bad Neunehar, to name a few, have the prefix Bad, meaning spa or literally bath. Spa hotels and resorts today offer holistic wellness, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual in luxurious surroundings and atmosphere.

According to the first ever spa report published by Christine Tetreault at the 2008 Global Spa Summit in New York, the global spa economy stood at US$ 250 billion. This confirms the fact that the economic slow down had no impact on wellness business.

Spa business has come of age generating employment opportunities by millions. It has become very focused, specialised and professional. Spas can be classified into three categories - the day spa, offering a specific therapy, destination spa- as the name suggests, these are spas where guests stay, get healthier, have an entertaining time as the spa offers a whole range of body pampering treatments and therapies, and finally the medical spas which are more on clinical and medicine based treatments. The industry thrives on day spas in the city hotels and destination spas in resort hotels.

Spa planning for a luxury city hotel and a spa resort is a very complex exercise. Since wellness is the main marketing tool, the planning and implementing team must be fully aware of various processes and procedures, the flow of activity, space planning, knowledge of latest spa, gym and therapy equipments, technology, lay outs etc. The spa planning and executing team normally consists of a technical resource, interior decorator and the facility planner.

Staff in a spa plays an important role. They are educated and well trained in various therapies, processes and operations. These include massages - Swedish, Thai, deep tissue etc, water therapies like flotation, water dance, Jacuzzi etc. Most spas offer yoga sessions and various alternate therapies like Chinese, Egyptian and many more.

Wellness being the focus of the entire concept, beauty therapies become an integral part of a spa. These are available for both men and women. The beauty segment includes areas like hair, facial and body treatments. Food and nutrition counselling is part of spa management for the resident and day spa users.

A well-planned spa hotel or a spa resort has all the essentials of a luxury city hotel or a luxury resort hotel. Wellness becomes the core activity for the guests as well as the management. Well appointed guest rooms, state of the art fitted bath rooms, a wow lobby, gourmet restaurants, bars, discotheque, lounges, business centre, swimming pool and sports complex etc make the product complete.

As we look ahead, we must remember that enjoying good health and well being is the most desired wish of humans, the demand for a luxury, upscale spa hotel or spa resort will always remain high, it is an evergreen business niche. Forget get well! Keep well! is the mantra for a beautiful and enjoyable life.

Hotels With Golf Course and Spa

Staying in a hotel is a relaxing experience and offers a chance to get away from it all. It doesn't matter whether your stay is for business or pleasure, a hotel should provide a convenient, friendly environment in which to recharge your batteries.

If you are looking for a weekend away from the stresses of work, or are away on a break with friends, hotels with spas offer an ideal place to stay. You can pamper yourself by the pool, treat yourself to a spa day or even work out at the gym. For a relaxing spa break, a country house hotel is an ideal place to stay. After a calming massage, you can sip cocktails in the scenic grounds whilst chatting to friends or reading a book.

In addition to country hotels with spas, cultural meccas such as Bath and London offer spa hotels where one can partake in treatments in between shopping sessions or a trip to the theatre. Despite being in the hustle and bustle of a modern city, hotel spas are a way to escape the noise of the city.

For those who enjoy a different kind of relaxation, hotels with golf courses offer an ideal place to practise your sporting talents whilst conducting business or simply to indulge in your passion for golf. Some of the premier golfing venues are in Scotland such as the Carnoustie Golf Course - home to the 136th British Open.

Nevertheless, one doesn't need to venture far out of the capital to find golf orientated hotels, with establishments situated in home counties such as Surrey.

If your partner's passion is golf, but you would rather be pampered by a team of expert beauticians, then why not combine the the two by picking a hotel that offers both? After a refreshing day on the course or in the spa, you can meet up for a lavish dinner date and rekindle that romance.

Calistoga Hotels and Wineries

Located at the north end of the Napa Valley, the town of Calistoga was named by Sam Brannon. He coined the name hoping that his development would be similar to the New York resort of Saratoga Springs. In 1859, mineral springs were discovered here, and it's been a popular destination ever since.

Many Calistoga hotels still offer full-service spas so their guests can take advantages of the water's healing properties.

Much more laid back and low key than some of the other Napa and Sonoma Valley towns, Calistoga has a funky charm. The main street has cute shops and a few good restaurants. And there are several good wineries a few minutes from town.

One, Chateau Montelena, produced the Chardonnay that beat the French wines in a blind taste test in 1973. The movie "Bottle Shock" told the story. The winery is in a 19th-century chateau that's surrounded by beautiful gardens and a pretty pond. It's a lovely place for a picnic lunch.

Also in Calistoga, Clos Pegase winery was designed by architect Michael Graves in 1986. He envisioned a temple of wine, and the grounds are decorated with modern sculpture and formal gardens. Clos Pegase is best known for their Pinot Noir and Sauvingon Blanc.

Champagne drinkers should visit Schramsberg to taste California sparkling wines and see how they're made. The tour here includes tunnels dug in the 19th century by Chinese laborers. It's one of the best in the valley.

Calistoga hotels.

Calistoga has several really luxurious properties. Calistoga Ranch, which is a member of the Leading Small Hotels of the World group, is set on 157 beautiful acres. The accommodations here - called lodges - are cedar-shingled bungalows with indoor and outdoor living spaces. Most have outdoor showers, and some have outdoor living rooms with fireplaces. The 2,400-square-foot, two-bedroom lodges have all the comforts of home, including state-of-the-art entertainment centers. They've done a great job locating the lodges so that they're private and take advantage of the magnificent views.

Solage Calistoga has 89 contemporary-style rooms with outdoor patios, concrete floors, and fireplaces. With a 20,000-square-foot spa, a huge, heated pool, fitness center, and yoga studio, there are plenty of ways to stay active. Or you can rent a bicycle for a ride through the valley. If you're a star-gazer, telescopes are available for guests - you can see a lot of stars here. And the property is pet-friendly if you want to bring Fido along.

The original Calistoga resort - developed by Sam Brannan in 1861, Indian Springs Resort and Spa is a great place to take a soak in the mud. The resort's Olympic-size, spring-fed pool has been in operation since 1917. It's kept at 92 degrees in summer and 102 degrees in winter. Accommodations here are in some cottages that were built in the 1940s and in the Spanish-style lodge that used to be known as Nance's Hotel. The owners purchased the lodge in 2004 and completely restored it. You can walk to the shops and restaurants in Calistoga from here.

Travelers who prefer to stay right downtown will appreciate the Mount View Hotel and Spa. In a National Historic Landmark that was built in 1917, it has 32 rooms and suites, plus an Artists' Cottage that has a Jacuzzi and private patio. There's a heated, outdoor pool with cabanas, a day spa, and two restaurants as well.

Ayurveda and Spa Getaways - A Breath of Fresh Air For The Soul!

Times have changed drastically over the past two decades. Money has become synonymous with success just as much as stress has become synonymous with work. In such chaotic times, even the thought of getting away from it all in a land far away can seem to calm frazzled nerves. And, in fact, if such is the case, imagine what a real-time experience can do for your health and overall wellness.

For such reasons and more, Ayurveda and Spa tours are becoming quite popular. Each year people from across the globe flock to India, the land where the concept of Ayurveda and wellness originated, not only to soothe their weary nerves, but also to uplift their exhausted souls. Thus, Ayurveda and Spa getaways have found a special place in most India luxury tour packages.

Ayurveda happens to be the earliest school of medicine known to mankind. It was developed by Charaka during the Vedic Period, who is known to be the Father of Medicine in India. The word Ayurveda is a combination of two words, ayus meaning "longevity" and veda meaning "science" or "knowledge". It has been widely acknowledged as an effective source of alternative medicine and healing. In Ayurveda, the body is not considered as a separate entity for healing; rather therapies are developed after considering the entire mind-body-soul balance. Ayurvedic treatments do not simply target a particular ailment, they rather seek to remove the root cause and bring balance to the individual as a whole. Therefore, these therapies include a mix of massages, oil treatments, herbal treatments and dietary changes.

Ayurvedic therapies are not necessarily for those with ailments, perfectly healthy individuals can opt for them as well to maintain and enhance their internal balance. This makes opting for Ayurveda and Spa themed tours on a luxury trip to India not only a blissful experience, but also an utmost liberating one. In fact, the choice of hotel on such a luxury tour of India can make a world of difference to the entire experience. It is imperative to check the quality of service and hygiene standards of the property you are about to entrust your well-being with. While this can seem to be quite a daunting task for those sitting miles away, asking your luxury tour provider to do the check can make life easier.

Most luxury tour operators recommend only such hotels/properties that have been appreciated by previous guests, or come approved by some authority. Hotels in the Himalayan range and down south in Kerala or its backwaters come highly recommended for the experience they have to offer.

Getting a massage overlooking vast expanses of lush green lands or soothing water bodies can make all the effort put into designing your luxury India holiday prove worth the while. So the next time life starts getting on your nerves, you must consider investing in an Ayurveda and Spa getaway with a luxury tour service provider to help infuse a new sense of purpose to your existence.

The 10 Best Spots to Park Up in Your Campervan

The UK is a delightful and eclectic mix of eccentricities, hidden treasures and fantastic scenery that ranges from dramatic moorlands to forests, mountains and seaside resorts. The beauty of a campervan is that you are free to explore all of these hidden gems without worrying about booking into hotels or camping and having to deal with our somewhat changeable weather! So we've scoured the country and here we bring you ten of the best locations for campervans and holidaying in general.

1. Middlewood Farm Holiday Park, Whitby North Yorkshire

Don't be put off by the 'holiday park' tag - this site is simply beautiful with stunning views across Whitby Bay and the spectacular Yorkshire countryside. Five minutes from the local pub and just 10 minutes from the beach, Middlewood is a family-friendly park with excellent onsite facilities and a welcoming atmosphere.

2. Kneps Farm, Blackpool, Lancashire

If you're travelling with kids and want to be close to some great attractions, Kneps Farm is only a few miles from the bright lights and beachfront attractions of Blackpool. However, it is set in the Lancashire countryside and if peace and quiet is more your thing this spot offers a tranquil location for enjoying the surrounding views and walks.

3. Skelwith Fold Caravan Park, Ambleside, Cumbria

To be honest, we could have chosen anywhere in the magnificent Lake District, but Skelwith is special. Not just a holiday park, this location is a 130 acre retreat that is home to a wildlife reserve and is close to Grizedale Forest - a spectacular Lakeland forest with unexpected surprises in the form of art installations dotted along the forest walks.

4. East Fleet Farm, Weymouth, Dorset

East Fleet Farm has spectacular views across Chesil Beach and the Dorset coast and is just three miles from the historic town of Weymouth. Given the David Bellamy gold award three times for being one of the most environmentally friendly parks in the UK, the atmosphere at East Fleet is fun, friendly and very laid back. A great spot that's highly recommended for exploring the Jurassic coast and for fossil hunting on the beach!

5. The Dell Caravan and Camping park, Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk

The Dell is a perfect stopping spot if you want to explore the attractions of Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and the surrounding countryside. Close to great attractions such as Newmarket Race Track and the hauntingly beautiful Thetford Forest, The Dell has excellent on site facilities and a warm, friendly welcome.

6. Haggerston Castle, Northumberland

If you're into myth, magic and Harry Potter, this is the spot for you. Close to Alnwick Castle, which doubles as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films, Haggerston Castle is a five star park with a typically warm Northumbrian welcome. A wealth of activities on site are guaranteed to keep the kids happy, while its proximity to Northumberland's amazing beaches is great for keen watersports enthusiasts.

7. Nantcol Waterfalls, Cefn Uchaf, Llanbedr, Gwynedd

This spectacularly beautiful location is wild, well off the beaten track and one of the most tranquil and peaceful spots anywhere in Wales. Just a mile from the Rhinog Mountains and close to the Nantcol Waterfalls itself, this stopping spot is a basic, no frills stop that is perfect for those who want to rediscover the raw essence of camping. There is a great local pub in the nearby village of Llanbedr if it all gets too 'real' for you, though!

8. Rhyd y Galen Caravan & Camping Park, Bethel Caernarfon, Wales

Quiet, tranquil and just 15 minutes from the Snowdon footpath, this is a perfect stopping spot for exploring the majestic Snowdonia National Park. With mountains and lakes right outside your van and the beach just a short drive away, this excellent location is a perfect base from which to spend a few days exploring everything the region has to offer.

9. Little Meadow, Watermouth, Ilfracombe, North Devon

Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this small but perfectly formed campsite provides you with some of the most spectacular views of the North Devon coast. The site has been specially terraced to give everyone a great view, and for surfers there's a selection of great beaches all within a very short drive. The South West Coastal Path runs right past the site and the nearby UNESCO Biosphere Reserve at Braunton Burrows is also a fascinating and different attraction.

10. Run to the Sun, Newquay, Cornwall

We couldn't possibly have a list of the 10 best campervan stops without including RttS! Held every year in May, this event is the ultimate Campervan get together and while it's not a 'stop' in the same way as our other nine contenders, it is the perfect excuse to head for the beaches of Cornwall for a great campervan holiday. Visit the RttS website for ticket details and events listings, but if you miss out on the event itself Newquay is still one of the best stops for campervan enthusiasts in the country and a perennial favourite for surfers.

Outdoor Adventure Travel in Canada

When the snow starts to fall, outdoor adventure travel in Canada heats up. Instead of hiding indoors for half of the year, there's plenty of things to do in, on or under the snow. And with most winter adventures only a few hours away from a major city, adrenaline-junkies don't have to travel far to get their fix.

Take a look at some travel suggestions from our Scenic Travel Canada staff:

Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding - Skiing and snowboarding are high-speed thrills that make downhillers wish for more of the white stuff! Vancouver has Whistler; Calgary has Banff and Montreal has Mont Tremblant. And there are plenty of local hills to brush up on techniques early in the season. Ski season starts in mid-November and runs until May. The busiest, and most expensive, time at the ski resorts is around Christmas and spring break when families head to the hills in droves. But with new high-speed ski-lifts, queues on the hill are often shorter than the lineups in the parking lots and restaurants.
The best time to go downhill skiing is mid-week when the lift-lines are non-existent and the runs are uncrowded.
Snowboarding is as popular as skiing and now makes up more than half of all downhillers.
Hotel prices are usually cheaper mid-week. Ask at the concierge desk if lift tickets can be purchased in advanced, usually at a discount.
Discount lift-tickets are available early in the season and offer savings that last throughout the ski-season.
Cross-Country Skiing - Not all people are as courageous (or crazy enough) to strap boards to their feet and hurtle down a mountain. For those who are downhill-challenged, try cross-country skiing instead. It's like walking but only faster; similar to skating but without the falls; akin to running but not as strenuous. There are only a few nordic centers in the country dedicated to cross-country skiers but any snow covered trail is worth exploring. To get in shape at the beginning of the ski-season, try training at a local golf course. Then head out to the backcountry for a cool day of sliding and gliding.
Snowmobiling - Snowmobiling is fast, fun and exciting. Enjoy a family outing zipping through snowy fields, sparkling powder and spectacular scenery. Whizzing along forest trails is a great way to spend a sunny, winter day in the Canadian backcountry. Guided snowmobile tours in Canada are available to take sledders along pathways to places usually inaccessible at other times of the year. Ontario alone has over 30,000 kilometers of trails while Revelstoke, BC offers 12-18 meters of the white stuff (yes, meters). The quiet beauty and virgin snow is breathtaking and unforgettable.
Skating - Indoor arenas are fundamental to every community in this hockey-loving nation and many municipalities also maintain outdoor skating areas as well. Calgary has a natural rink in Bowness Park; Winnipeg has the 5.7 kilometer River Trail and of course, Ottawa has the Rideau Canal, a World Heritage Site. Enjoy a warm winter day on a frozen waterway and bring back childhood memories of playing on the ice.
Snowshoeing - Hiking in Canada doesn't have to come to an end once the snow accumulates on the ground. As a winter substitute, strap on some lightweight snowshoes and follow your favourite trails to see the frozen backcountry. Snowshoeing is similar to hiking except trekkers can make their own trails. Scrub-brush and felled trees are buried deep below the powdery snow allowing showshoers to easily float on top. Take more direct routes up hills, tromp over buried thicket and follow frozen creeks & streams to secret winter locations.
Winter Camping - Instead of packing the tent away for 6 months, try a winter camping trip! Die-hard campers can pitch a tent and hunker down for the night any place that is sheltered from the wind. Combined with snowshoeing, winter camping is quiet and uncrowded. The soft snow under the tent makes for comfortable bedding. And hot chocolate has never tasted so good.
Caving - Caving in Canada is warm! Buried deep underground, the natural warmth of the earth keeps caverns at a constant temperature throughout the year, usually around +5 C. Once inside, winter quickly fade as cavers descend into a dark and damp chute below the surface. Guided tours provide protective equipment and gear to take you into a different world of narrow passageways, mineral deposits and crystal-clear pools. Those people who are claustrophobic will find the narrow crevasses truly a once-in-a-life-time experience.
Sailing - The North Pacific Ocean near the BC coast is always +10 C making for year round sailing adventures. From November to March, rain showers are frequent but avid sailors can still get their thrills amongst the Gulf Islands and fjords of Vancouver Island. The westerly winds are strong and constant off of the Pacific Ocean, making for exciting and anxious sailing adventures. Bring rain gear and a VHF radio to monitor the weather since winter storms can produce gale force winds. Fog is west-coast trademark.

Outdoor adventure travel in Canada is a year round pastime. When the snow starts to fall and nature goes into hibernation, there are plenty of things to do and places to explore in this magical winter wonderland.

Scenic Travel Canada is a website that helps travelers and nature-lovers to discover Canada. There are plenty of things to do in Canada that cater to people of all fitness levels. From snowmobiling in the Rocky Mountains to snowshoeing in the Maritimes, travelers will be amazed at the beautiful Canadian scenery that awaits in winter.

Home Alone - We've Got You Covered

In this economy there are many of us who have had to resort to finding employment away from home for sometimes long periods of time. This often leaves our loved ones home alone. For peace of mind and security for all who are involved there are many products on today's market that are cost efficient that can alert you when someone enters the property. You can have a system as simple as an infrared wireless driveway alarm that will send an alarm to a receiver in the house when it detects a vehicle or person entering the property. You can have a wireless driveway system that will only detect moving metal or combine the systems to monitor vehicles that enter the drive and an infrared system to monitor people entering at a different location such as a backyard gate ecetera. You could expand this simple system with different components that will actually turn on a light each time the driveway alarm is triggered. If you wish to deter any unwanted visitors you can also wire a siren to the receiver!

Another cost efficient item available on today's market is the wireless intercom systems. You have a choice of just the doorbell intercom system or a video doorbell system which allows you not only to speak to the person at the door but also to see the person at your door. You can never be too careful. Knowing who is at your door without having to open it leaves you with a great sense of security.

Of course there is always the option of Video Surveillance Security Cameras. These come in a wide variety of CCTV, Outdoor, Hidden, Self Contained and Imitation models. You can constantly monitor any activity that occurs on the premise. Depending on what unit you install you would be able to view live footage, record and store or view from a different location using an iPhone or Blackberry.

These security products are very user friendly and can be installed by any home owner. Another great thing about these products mentioned is that there is no additional charges incurred when you purchase these systems. A one time purchase price, receive and install the system of your choice and you are all set. It really is amazing on how much peace of mind these security systems can give. Just knowing that you will never be surprised by a visitor again is very comforting to most of us.

New York Hotels

New York is one of the richest and most happening cities of the world. New York is famous for the New York Stock Exchange, the Statue of Liberty, nanotechnology and microchip making, its vineyards, its cut diamonds, and its orchards. New York's gross state product is well over $ 1 trillion. It is said that if New York was an independent country by itself, it would be the 16th largest economy in the globe. New York is a flourishing city and Times Square is one of the liveliest spots of New York. The personal per capita income of New York is well over $ 46,000. Hence, most people who live in New York are extremely affluent except those who live in the ghettos of the city. The New York hotels, like the other establishments of New York, are plush, posh, dazzling and overwhelming.

Sightseeing Attractions in New York

As New York is a renowned financial and commercial hub of the United States of America and the world, several businessmen and women travel to New York frequently. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the biggest stock exchange of the globe, is an important trading center of New York, the US, and the world. The headquarters of many multinational companies and investment banks are located in New York. The New York hotels provide excellent accommodation to all the corporate managers as well as to the tourists who visit New York. New York happens to be a great tourist hub and is thronged by holidaymakers from all across the world. The Empire State Building, American Museum of Natural History, Museum of Modern Art, Broadway, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Madison Square Garden, World Financial Center, the new World Trade Center, Hudson River, Carnegie Hall, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Queens Zoo, Rockefeller Center, Wall Street, etc. are some of the many tourist hotspots of New York. The New York hotels generally arrange for tours for their guests so that the latter can have a gala time in New York.

Different Types of New York Hotels and the Different Areas of New York

The hotels of New York are countless in number. New York hotels can broadly be divided into luxury New York hotels, boutique New York hotels, airport hotels and cheap New York hotels. The hotels in New York cater to the needs of diverse travelers. However, most New York hotels charge exorbitant amounts from their guests. Even the cheap New York hotels ask for prices that are forbidding. Manhattan is one of the most expensive places of New York apart from Broadway and Times Square. Chinatown, in Manhattan, is a popular home for Asian immigrants. Manhattan also happens to be a favorite haunt of all the tourists of the city. Brooklyn is one of the cheapest areas of New York, apart from the ghetto areas, which are predominantly populated by the African-American population of New York. Harlem is another area of New York where a large section of the African American population of the city resides. The Asian immigrants of New York reside primarily in the area of Queens.

A reason why the New York hotels are never in dearth of occupants is because of the fact that New York is an extremely well-connected city. New York is served by the underground railway system and four suburban railway tracks. The John F. Kennedy International Airport is the main airport of the city. Several New York hotels have cropped up in the vicinity of the various tourist attractions of New York so that hotel guests can go for sightseeing easily, without boarding buses or hiring long-distance automobiles for traveling.

Conference Facilities in the Luxury and Boutique New York Hotels

Some of the finest and costliest hotels of New York are The Waldorf Astoria, The Four Seasons Hotel, The Carlyle, The Peninsula, New York Palace, The Alex, Trump International, etc. The Carlyle is a grand old New York hotel that encapsulates an old-world charm and aura. It comprises an imposing edifice on Madison Avenue and is rated as one of the best boutique New York hotels. The hotel boasts of 4,033 square feet of meeting and conference space. One of the most fabulous hotels of New York, the Carlyle sports a frontage bedecked in the Art Deco style. The ceiling of the hotel is beautifully carved. The Carlyle vaunts enormous and impressive banquet and conference halls, antechambers and suites. It's one of the few hotels of New York that's an ideal venue for boardroom battles, symposiums, seminars, conferences, after-dinner meets, weddings, dances, and parties. The conference halls of The Carlyle are equipped with the latest and hi-tech audiovisual gadgets so that conferences may be conducted seamlessly.

If The Carlyle is imposing, then The Waldorf Astoria is magnificent. The Waldorf Astoria is one of the New York hotels that transports you back to a period when gentlemen in tailcoats escorted ladies in long gowns from horse-drawn barouche-landaus to Victorian-styled drawing rooms, when people still observed British mannerisms and customs in the New World. The hotel is adorned by antique furniture and decorations that hark back to 1893, the year when the hotel was built. The Waldorf Astoria is a great venue for meetings and events. The hotel has 60,000 square feet of conference space. The Waldorf Astoria is one of the few hotels of New York that boasts of a rich experience and consequently a rich expertise, in hosting state dinners and corporate meetings. It's also one of the few hotels of the city that has invested millions of dollars in enhancing its meeting facilities and technological capabilities. The Waldorf Astoria is one of the rare hotels of New York that offers its corporate guests direct-link satellite broadcasting facilities and ultra-high-velocity Internet connectivity to support hi-tech videoconferencing and web conferencing.

Where meetings and events are concerned, the Waldorf Astoria is regarded as one of the special hotels of New York. This is because the hotel assigns the conference management task to an Event Manager who performs the task of conference management on behalf of the clients or guests. The Event Manager and their team look into every aspect of conference management so that clients face no problem in hosting and conducting conferences. The fourth and the eighteenth stories of the hotel are dedicated for conferences and events. Each of the luxury and boutique New York hotels is an excellent venue for meetings and events. The luxury and boutique hotels of New York charge anything between $219 and $ 3,600 per day, per guest. Many say that the luxury and boutique New York hotels are too opulent and showy. They show new money, unabashedly. Many opine that the hotels of New York, however flashy, cannot compare to the London hotels or the Paris hotels in class and heritage. The New York hotels, according to many, show more power than anything else. This is not surprising because New York is situated in the United States of America, the most powerful nation of the world.

Airport New York Hotels and Their Business Centers

Now let's turn to examine some other types of New York hotels. New York is served by three airports: the JFK International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and the Newark Liberty International Airport. The hotels which are classified as airport New York hotels are located in close proximity to these airports. The various airport hotels of New York that are situated close to the JFK International Airport are the Ramada Plaza Hotel, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Days Inn, Best Western, Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Sheraton, etc. The various airport hotels of New York that are situated close to the LaGuardia Airport are the LaGuardia Airport hotel, Clarion Hotel, Marriott, Crowne Plaza, Comfort Inn, etc. The various airport hotels of New York that are situated close to the Newark Liberty International Airport are the Marriott, Days Hotel, Wyndham Garden Hotel, Renaissance Hotel, etc.

These New York hotels charge much lower rates than the boutique and luxury New York hotels. If you opt to stay in any of the airport hotels, you'll have to cough up about $ 49 to $ 199 per day. Affordable, isn't it? But on the downside, most airport hotels in New York can't afford you conference facilities at the rates they charge you. Most of these hotels, however, possess Business Centers, which are equipped with photocopying and facsimile facilities, wireless Internet connectivity, and computers with Internet connections. Some of the airport New York hotels such as the Fairfield Inn by Marriott, have banqueting facilities. The airport hotels of New York are plainly furnished and sparsely decorated.

Family and Pet-Friendly New York Hotels

Family hotels and pet-friendly hotels are other types of hotels in New York but these hotels are occupied mostly by families on holidays and not by people who'd like to host meetings. Hence, conference facilities are not present in such hotels. However, as there are exceptions to all rules, some of these hotels are equipped with business and meeting facilities.

Cheap New York Hotels

And finally, we come to that section of hotels known as the cheap New York hotels. Most of the cheap hotels of New York are not hotels but hostels, inns and boarding houses. As has been mentioned before, even the cheap hotels of New York can be dear. However, they're much cheaper compared to the other hotels of New York. They also lack proper amenities. Which is why they're designated as cheap New York hotels. Most of the rooms in cheap New York hotels don't possess attached bathrooms and guests have to use the common bathroom of the corridor. The cheap hotels in New York are boarded mostly by youngsters, students and backpackers, who not only don't mind the discomforts of life but also take them with an adventurous spirit.

The rooms of these hotels aren't equipped with telephones and these hotels don't accept payment by credit card. The rooms of many of these New York hotels are equipped with bunk beds and almost resemble dormitories. Bathrooms in these hotels may also be dirty. And don't even think of hosting a conference in these New York hotels unless you're willing to call 'a room full of young students jumping about', a 'conference'. But the cheap New York hotels are generally located at spots close to the New York subways, tourist hotspots, and shops. So, you can get a good feel of the city if you reside in these hotels, provided you don't mind the accompanying hardships.

Choosing New York Hotels

You can choose hotels in New York according to your budget, conference preferences, the conference facilities that the hotels offer, location of the hotels, and other parameters. If you choose wisely, you'll stand to gain in many ways because New York has plenty to offer. The cityscape of New York that most luxury New York hotels capture is beautiful while the poverty and squalor in the ghettos of New York is shocking and sad. One thing must be said of all the New York hotels, whether they are luxury hotels or boutique hotels or airport hotels or family hotels or cheap hotels - they help you to get a feel of the city and experience the city from different angles and perspectives.
